On February 10, 2025, our teachers and staff participated in a Professional Development Day focused on collaboration, planning, and safety preparedness.
The morning began with a delicious breakfast from JT’s, setting the stage for a productive day. Staff then took part in building tours, reviewed updates to professional development plans, engaged in team planning, and participated in curriculum meetings to enhance instructional practices.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to active shooter response training, a critical exercise involving multiple agencies from Chillicothe, Livingston County, and the state of Missouri. Participating organizations included the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Chillicothe Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri Department of Conservation, Chillicothe Fire Department, and Hedrick Medical Center. This simulation provided staff with hands-on practice in emergency response, reinforcing preparedness and ensuring a coordinated approach to school safety.
A special thank you to SRO Lewis for organizing this vital training and to all agencies involved for their commitment to keeping our school community safe.

Our amazing PTO provided fun games and activities for our kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th-grade classrooms during their Valentine’s Day parties. We are so grateful for the incredible support of our CES parents and PTO!

Our 3rd-grade Tadpoles explored the Auto Service Tech, Hospitality & Tourism, and Early Childhood Professions programs at GRTS last week, gaining hands-on insights into these exciting career fields!

Writing Consultant Christie Jackson Visits CES
Today, writing consultant Christie Jackson visited CES to host model lessons, helping our young authors strengthen their writing skills.
• Kindergarten writers focused on structuring their stories with a clear beginning, middle, and end using a story planner.
• First graders brainstormed topics they know well to prepare for informational writing.
• Second graders worked on expanding and revising complete sentences to enhance their writing.
After the lessons, our teachers had the opportunity to debrief with Mrs. Jackson, discussing effective writing strategies and teaching techniques to further support our students.
We look forward to welcoming Mrs. Jackson back on Thursday when she will work with our 3rd-5th graders!

Red Kingdom!

Our CES students are tackling their goals just like champions—making progress, scoring big, and celebrating their own Super Bowl victories along the way!

Let Your Kind Shine”
Kindness is everywhere at CES! The three recipients of this week's awards were nominated by a teacher or staff member for showing exceptional kindness. They received a sunshine bag and the opportunity to sit in the yellow sunshine chair over the next week to promote kindness throughout CES!
Elliott Owens (Miss Book’s First Grade Class)
Elliott can always be found looking for ways to help others. At recess, Elliott spent part of his time trying to push snow off of the turf into the snow pile so that all of his friends could have more room to play.
Gracelynn Ball (Mrs. Schneider’s 3rd Grade)
Gracelynn shines EVERY day she steps foot in CES. She is a very hard worker, even when it's tough. She is on task and a great leader in our classroom! She is helpful and caring to everyone! Her kind smile can brighten the worst day! Keep shining, sweet girl!
Henry Shaw (Mrs. Beck’s 4th Grade Class)
Henry Shaw lets his kindness shine by using manners. He always says please and thank you. He waits patiently when others are talking. He is a great carpet partner and tries his best on his assignments.

Congratulations to our Hornet High Five overall winners! Way to go!
