CHS Circle Rive

The Chillicothe High School’s circle drive, and the road directly in front of the R-II Administrative Offices on Hornet Road, are sporting brand new concrete, thanks to a $160,000 donation from the Minnie B Hedrick Residuary Trust and the James Lawson Trust.

The project, which occurred over the past few weeks, included the removal of asphalt in both areas and the pouring of approximately 16,000 feet of 7-inch concrete over 4 inches of rock and rebar. JD Bishop Construction LLC, of Chillicothe completed the work.

According to Dr. Dan Wiebers, Chillicothe R-II Schools Superintendent, the concrete was needed around the high school’s circle drive because of the wear and tear the asphalt had received from constant bus traffic over the years.

The asphalt road in front of the R-II Administrative Offices also sustained major damage over the summer from heavy trucks traveling over it during two separate projects: the completion of the cement parking lot east of the Administrative Offices, which is part of the nearly completed CES Expansion Project; and the new asphalt parking lot east of the new Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium.

“I am continually amazed by the generosity of this community and its area foundations,” Wiebers said, adding, “Because of their efforts, our students have the opportunity to learn and grow in some of the best facilities in northwest Missouri and we are certainly thankful for their support.”
