Midland Empire Conference
Fan Guidelines
Winter 2020-21
In an effort to provide the opportunity for students to participate in activities and create the safest environment for our students and their families, the MEC Board of Control has implemented the following guidelines for attendance at activities at member schools for the Winter activities season:
Attendance will be limited to 6 family members per participant. Both home and visiting schools will have a pass list for each participant at the gate. Individual students will not be admitted unless they are family members on the pass list.
Fans (including any family members that are students) will be expected to sit with their families and maintain social distancing from other fans. There will be no student section.
Face coverings will be required at all indoor events for anyone not actively participating in the contest. This includes coaches and players on the bench.
Dance teams will be allowed to perform and attend home events and up to 6 family members will be admitted as well. There will be no pep band.
Cheerleaders will be allowed at home and away events and will be allowed 6 family members per participant.
Wrestling tournaments will be limited to 2 family members per participant and each school will provide a pass list at the gate. Non-tournaments will follow regular guidelines.
The goal of the MEC Board of Control is to take as many precautions as possible to provide these opportunities for our students. Additionally, it is the goal of the Board of Control to create an opportunity for families to attend these events in person. These guidelines are subject to modification based upon directives and recommendations from health care professionals. Your cooperation is appreciated.

From the desk of Coach French:
The CMS 8th grade Football Hornets ended their 2020 season tonight with a 38-12 loss to the visiting Maryville 8th Grade Spoofhounds.
The Hornets' highlights were mainly supplied by CMS standout Silas Midgyett. Silas returned a kickoff after a Spoofhounds score for a 70-yard touchdown return.
Silas also led the team in rushing and scored the team's only offensive touchdown.
Quarterback Trevor Peniston led the team well on some drives and had a couple of nice runs, too.
Defensively, Silas made a few nice plays as the defensive end and the other defensive end, Johnathan Bowlin, also had a sack and a tackle for loss.
The defensive line, led by Trent Jacobs, Bo Smith, and Austin Covert, made some big plays, also.
It was an unusual season to say the last; however, this group of young Hornets has some pieces that might help the classes ahead of them make a deep playoff run in the future.
Thanks to all of our parent volunteers on the chain gang and clock crew. Thanks to Eric Turner for being the voice of the Hornets. Thanks to Donnie Murrell for being the stadium crew who helps us so much in preparation for a game. Thanks to Mrs. Smith and Mr. Creekmore for being our administrators leading us through it all.

Volleyball had an outstanding night last night as the 7th and 8th grade girls both took care of Hamilton in straight sets!

Football, from the office of Coach French:
The Chillicothe 7th grade went to Kirksville, for their Tuesday night game. They ended up losing 22-12,
Jack Marshall scored both of the Chillicothe touchdowns. One was a sixty yard run in the first quarter. The other was a 3 yard run in the fourth quarter. Jaishon White, Olivia Jenkins, and Brenton Ralls all had multiple carries throughout the game. Coach Coult said that we came out slow, but in the second half, the offense finally found its groove.
Defensively, the Hornets played the run well, but the Kirksville quarterback was able to find some open men downfield and gained a chunk of their yardage through the air. Coach Sewell was happy with the run stop but noted that we will work on our coverages this week.
The 7th grade Hornets fall to 1-1, they have a rescheduled Marville game next Tuesday at home to finish off their season.
In the second game of the night, Kirksville’s 8th-grade team defeated Chillicothe’s 8th-grade team 26-0 as the 8th grade Hornets also fell to 1-1.
Coach Doug French and assistant coach Roman Cranmer give a lot of credit to Kirksville. They are a very talented team with many athletes who are well-coached. I also feel we could give them a better game with more consistency with our offense. Our offensive line was inconsistent with their protection on passes and didn’t execute as well as we had hoped. We looked very rusty after taking 36 days between games for days off, days on, and virtual conditioning practices in between.
Silas Midgyett had a good game running the ball and playing defense. Langston Johnson also had several good runs.
Defensively, along with Silas, Austin Covert, Bo Smith, and Trent Jacobs made some big plays along the front of the defensive line.
Kirksville was able to get enough protection that they connected on some long passes and put together some good drives. We had difficulty finding eleven that would all tackle - the rust shown through on defense, too.
