The Old Litton Stadium track will be closed to the public starting tomorrow (Thursday, Aug. 1st) through Wednesday, Aug. 7th, for a resurfacing project. Superintendent Dr. Dan Wiebers said the project will include milling all cracks on the track, patching them back with base material and then adding a 2-inch cap on the top of the entire track. Amazing Tree Service, L.L.C. of Chillicothe, will be doing the work.
Several local foundations, along with the City of Chillicothe, Livingston County and the Chillicothe R-II School District, are paying for the cost of the work, which cost $138,000. Specifically, the Mervyn W Jenkins Foundation donated $38,000; the Chillicothe Educational Foundation contributed $50,000; the F.M. & Gladys McCall Foundation gave $15,000; Livingston County paid $25,000; the City of Chillicothe donated $5,000; and the Chillicothe R-II School district funded $5,900 of the project.
Wiebers noted that workers will remove the fencing on Dickinson Street near the stadium, so that equipment can be moved into the stadium without damaging the GRTS parking lot. The fence will be repaired when the project is completed.
