Good afternoon, Chillicothe R-II Parents and Staff,
I want to inform you that the Chillicothe R-II School District will not make up any school days during the 2024-2025 calendar year. This decision, made after careful consideration and consultation with the Board of Education, aims to help families plan for childcare, appointments, and vacations at the end of the school year.
This year, the District has utilized six Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Days, allowing students to complete assignments from home. This was part of an effort to qualify for a 1% bonus payment from Senate Bill 727, which requires 169 days of school attendance. The approved calendar includes 170 planned school days.
Due to harsh winter conditions, including blizzards and dangerously cold temperatures, the district has canceled school for nine days this year. Despite using the six AMI days and having an additional day built into the calendar, we are currently two days beyond the requirement for the bonus. Therefore, we will not make up those two days or any future weather-related cancellations as I understand the challenges make up days pose for families and staff regarding vacation plans and appointments.
As we move forward, I hope for warmer temperatures to end the winter weather. Please consider this communication as notice that the district will adhere to the approved calendar through the end of the year.
Sincerely,
Dr. Dan Wiebers
Superintendent
Chillicothe R-II School District
