Friend of Education

In recognition of his remarkable dedication to education and community service, Ed Douglas has been awarded the prestigious Northwest Friend of Education Award. He was presented with this honor last week during the Missouri Association of School Administrators Spring Conference at the Lake of the Ozarks. Currently serving as the Livingston County Presiding Commissioner and President of the Chillicothe Educational Foundation, Douglas has made significant contributions to the Chillicothe School District and its students.

Under Douglas's leadership, the Chillicothe Educational Foundation has raised substantial funds through its annual Teacher of the Year Reception, providing between $7,000 to $10,000 each year in Teacher Mini-Grants. Additionally, the Foundation has awarded approximately $12,000 in prize money to Teacher of the Year nominees, the Teacher of the Year, Beacon Award nominees (support staff), and the Beacon Award winner, celebrating the hard work and dedication of educators in the district.

One of Douglas's most notable achievements includes facilitating a generous donation of $250,000 from the Chillicothe Education Foundation towards the construction of the new Chillicothe Elementary School, ensuring that students have access to modern and safe learning environments. Furthermore, he collaborated with the Lambert Foundation to acquire 70 acres of land for the Chillicothe R-II School District, paving the way for future expansion of the north campus.

Douglas has also been instrumental in enhancing the district's facilities. He worked with the Education Foundation to donate $50,000 for resurfacing the track at the Old Jerry Litton Stadium, providing a better experience for student-athletes. Additionally, as Presiding Commissioner, he oversaw the renovation of the tennis courts at Dannar Park, which are utilized by the Chillicothe Boys and Girls Tennis teams.

In a commitment to student safety, Douglas partnered with the Education Foundation to allocate $25,000 for the purchase of bullet-resistant film for the windows at Chillicothe Elementary School, ensuring a secure environment for young learners.

Ed Douglas's unwavering support for education and his tireless efforts to improve the Chillicothe community have made a lasting impact. The Northwest Friend of Education Award is a testament to his dedication and the positive influence he continues to have on the lives of students and educators alike.
