🚌💛 It’s National School Bus Safety Week (October 19–23 ) and it’s a perfect reminder for all of us to slow down, stay alert, and help keep our students safe!
As you’re driving this week (and all year long), please remember:
🚦 Watch for stopped buses and be ready to stop - especially on rural roads and in neighborhoods
🐢 Slow down in school zones and near bus stops
↩️ Give buses extra space - they make frequent stops and wide turns, and visibility can be limited
📵 Stay distraction-free - a few seconds of attention can make a lifelong difference

CHS History Club and Art Club teamed up for a cross-curricular field trip to the Renaissance Festival on October 10, and our students had a great time learning outside the classroom!
We’re also really proud to share that 32 of our 34 students earned FREE admission through the Scholars Program thanks to their amazing GPAs. Way to go! You’ve worked hard, and it shows!

It’s Senior Night at the CHS home football game! Tonight, as we take on Moberly, we’re excited to recognize our CHS Senior Band members and the energy they bring to Friday nights. We're talking about you - Mason Eckert, Danika Harkins, Kaetlin Jenkins, Makaila Kennedy, Ava Lance, Izabella Leverett, Carlee Regan, and Kierra Williams!
Kickoff is at 7:00 PM—come out, fill the stands, and help us celebrate these seniors. Let’s show them how much our community appreciates their dedication and school spirit.

Mrs. Wheeler and Mr. Constant’s U.S. History classes wrapped up their Roaring Twenties unit today with a “speakeasy” celebration… that was promptly busted up by Officer Hogan. Unfortunately for us, Officer Hogan does not accept bribes, and our carbonated contraband was officially confiscated! It was a fun, memorable way to reinforce learning and keep students engaged.
We also want to celebrate the incredible partnership between our students and community organizations. Xi Alpha Kappa (Chillicothe chapter) member Julie Barnes stopped by with muffins to thank our CHS Key Club students for volunteering to paint faces at Chautauqua. Julie shared how the face painting supports charity programs - and we’re proud to see our students using their time and talents to make a difference.

This award recognizes an administrator who encourages FCCLA chapters and supports their school’s Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) program - and Mrs. Young truly does just that. In addition to volunteering her time to evaluate FCCLA STAR Events competitions, she consistently works to identify grants and funding sources that support innovative projects in our FCS Department and create unique learning opportunities for students.
This past year, Mrs. Young also helped gain the support and funding needed for our district to offer Teaching Pathways as part of our FCS course offerings through the Grand River Technical School.
Congratulations, Mrs. Young - and thank you for the difference you make for our students and staff every day!
We were also proud to have members of the CHS Choraliers in attendance! They did a wonderful job performing the National Anthem!
Students took part in a business meeting and heard from motivational speakers Kyler Erickson and Nick Rucker, who shared powerful messages about mental health and overcoming obstacles.
A big congratulations to our chapters on some exciting recognition:
CMS FCCLA earned the Best Chapter Banner Award and the Shooting Star Award, recognizing them as a new chapter laying strong groundwork so members can take full advantage of all FCCLA opportunities.
The CHS GRTS FCCLA Chapter received the Leadership Legacy Award for producing multiple state presidents, 1st vice presidents, and one national officer, along with earning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes at the state level in multiple national programs.
We are so proud of our students and sponsors for representing Chillicothe so well and continuing to build leadership for the future!

We’re incredibly grateful for our partners who helped bring this night to life: Table Top Farms, the Cattleman’s Association, GRTS’ Hospitality & Tourism program, Law Farms, and the Chillicothe FFA-sponsored petting zoo. A special thank-you as well to Katie Kerr with the Livingston County Library, who was on hand for storytelling - what a wonderful way to bring families together around books and learning!
We also loved seeing the many hands-on, ag-related stations throughout the night, as well as the fantastic stations created by Ms. Acree and Mrs. Leatherman’s classes. Our students and families had so many engaging ways to explore agriculture, literacy and STEM activities together.
Events like this are a great example of what we strive for in Chillicothe Schools - Student Success & Learning through real-world experiences, Strong Culture & Communication by bringing families into our schools, and Staff Engagement and community partnerships that make learning meaningful. Students put their knowledge of chemical reactions to work by building mini-rockets. They generated hydrogen and oxygen gases through chemical reactions, collected the gases over water, and then used those gases as fuel to launch their rockets - aiming to send them straight through the uprights for a “field goal.”
Result: 100% success!!
